Guillermo Del Toro To Bring Live Action ‘Monster’ Manga To HBO

It’s been eight years after the anime based on Naoki Urasawa‘s highly acclaimed horror manga Monster has ended, and now the story is going back to TV as a live action adaptation of the manga handled by Hellboy and Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro. Together with screenwriter Steven Thompson, who worked on BBC’s Sherlock and Doctor Who, they will bring Monster to HBO.

Thompson will write the pilot episodes while del Toro will direct. This is also the first time in HBO that they will be adapting something out from a manga. Naoki Urasawa also has top rated books such as Pluto and 20th century boys. Monster had 18 volumes published by VIZ, and was successfully adapted into an anime eight years ago, you can watch the first episode below.
