STORY
The game starts with peaceful Brick City, a place made of Lego® bricks, where everyone can build anything as they please. Brick City is guarded by Scarlet, one of the main protagonists of the game. Scarlet also has the responsibility to protect the Master Brick, a powerful and ancient artifact that can create anything. Conflict ensued when Mad Creator (the main antagonist) and his crooks attacked the city and stole the Master Brick. Even with the help of Kai (from Lego® Ninjago) and Ms. Cuffs (from Lego® City), Scarlet was unable to stop Mad Creator from seizing control of the Master Brick. With the mighty object in his hands, mad Creator assumes control of Brick City and its denizens.
It is now the player’s mission to reclaim Brick City by seeking help from other Lego® characters to defeat Mad Creator.
GAMEPLAY
I like that the developers combined the prologue with the tutorial part of the game. Much like Marvel Future Fight/other mobile RPG games, players have the option to use tap controls or a Virtual Joystick. You have the option to use up to three characters to use per stage in the game. What I appreciate about the game is the fact that all three characters are active during each mission, not just strikers or reserves. You can directly control one hero at a time; however, swapping heroes is an option. In addition, although you can only control one character at a time, the game’s AI has the ability to control your other two heroes and let them use their skills as well. You also have the option to go automatic and watch your heroes use their skills.
At this time, the character roster includes over a hundred heroes from Lego® product lines such as Lego® Ninjago, Lego® City, Lego® Castle, Lego® Pirates and more. Each character has an Active Skill, a Passive Skill and an Ultra Skill. Despite the game being targeted for the young at heart, I respect how the developers put effort into making this game a true RPG experience with heroes with different Classes, Attack Types and Buffs. There are many ways to make your heroes stronger. You can rank up heroes by obtaining Soul Bricks. You can also enhance heroes by equipping Magical Bricks. And finally, you can increase your heroes experience, thus levelling them up by using experience apples.
The game features different game modes, namely; Adventure, PVP Battle, Treasure Island, Dodge the Cannon, Challenge and Mad Tower. I believe that the game focused mainly on Adventure mode so let’s do the same. Each adventure consumes bananas, which you can get via achievements, log in bonuses, etc. The cool thing with adventure mode is that on many stages, your heroes can build and board transport objects, which will carry you from one part of the dungeon to the next. These transport objects can be catapults, cranes, giant eagles, etc. Another great idea is the ability to construct “Magic Builds,” to help you beat Mad Creator’s crooks. These “Magic Builds” can heal, go on the offense. etc. Much like other games of its kind, you have the option to Auto-Repeat for grinding purposes. However, I have yet to see an option to Auto-Clear a mission.
When it comes to Boss Fights, you have the option to “Gather” your heroes in one location before a significant strike from your enemy.
What’s a Lego® game without building? Lego® Q&C also has a diorama mode wherein you can rebuild different parts of Brick City. Completing buildings will allow you to access different game modes and give your heroes helpful buffs.
VISUALS AND PERFORMANCE
With the game developed using Unreal Engine 4, you can expect a visual delight. I recommend using the latest mobile phones to avoid lag.
VERDICT
With amazing graphics, excellent voice-acting and story-telling, this game is definitely a must for Lego® fans, both for the young and young at heart. With it’s kid friendly theme, it may alienate seasoned RPG players.
