Rob Cham‘s LOST is the next installment of his previous work LIGHT, which had amazing reviews due to its fantastic one-panel page storytelling and lusciously colorful art. It stood out from any komiks that was released in 2015 — LIGHT was simple, joyful and had an upbeat adventure that could entertain readers of any age. It is understandable that readers would expect the sequel to LIGHT to be another fun adventure between the two main characters: 1 (light) and 0 (dark).
It’s quite difficult to explain how intricate LOST is without spoiling it. Cham separates 1 and 0 when they enter a psychedelic wormhole, with very different experiences and adventures that result in an ending that would strum your heartstrings. This is where Cham breaks LIGHT‘s signature, but in a way that conveys fright, joy and hope all at the same time. The last ten pages are perfect and are the strongest ones that Cham has done for this story.
LOST is an evolved story that turns the gaiety in LIGHT into a complex and deep read. Its change of tone shows how sophisticated artistically Rob Cham is. LOST is a perfect partner to LIGHT: the black to its white, the night to its day, the falling reaction to LIGHT’s rising action. Its ending lays bittersweet thickly, and you can fully feel the meaning of this book’s title.
