MOVIE REVIEW: Dark Shadows

Reviewing the film “Dark Shadows” starring Johnny Depp and Eva Green directed by Tim Burton from Warner Bros. Pictures.

The beloved TV series gets a major shot in the arm thanks and a massive facelift as well thanks to Tim Burton and his film crew. The film centers on young Barnabas Collins of the Collins family who gets turned into a vampire, locked in an iron coffin for almost 200 years and then adapts to the new world he finds himself in together with his new family.

The movie is as good as it gets. There are a couple of boring moments but its overall a good movie. All the characters were interesting in their own way with the exception of Jackie Earle Haley’s Willy who plays “Renfield” for Depp’s Vampire.

The visuals are pretty amazing. If you get to watch this flick on IMAX you’ll definitely enjoy how larger than life Barnabas Collins is. If you’re a fan of Tim Burton’s works, you’ll also notice how much the director has gotten his ghosts down.

I certainly enjoyed the performance of two more characters in the movie. Eva Green’s Angelique was devious and dead sexy and even has hints of Naruto Shippuden’s Sasori in her. Chloe Grace Moretz was also a great addition to the cast. Especially in that scene where she and her “uncle” Barnabas have a talk.

The film is also chockful of cameos. Its got the special appearance of Christopher Lee and even shock rocker Alice Cooper. Finally, the sounds that were used throughout the film were authentically 70s such as “Superfly” and even Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid”.

Special thanks to Warner Bros Philippines for the special invites last night.

Dark Shadows officially opens May 10 and is available in cinemas everywhere.
