DUEL 2018: Road To Impetus – An ESports Tourney For A Dream Match With E-Sports Superstars

DUEL Teaser

University of the Philippines Gaming Guild (UPGG), the premiere student organization that actively promotes and supports the spread and growth of Philippine eSports, presents DUEL 2018: ROAD TO IMPETUS. Featuring the top Dota 2 teams from eight of the best universities in Manila, DUEL is the continuation of the organization’s commitment to advancing the local esports collegiate scene.

32 teams, 4 from each of the eight UAAP member schools invited, will be battling it out over the course of 3 weeks in a single-elimination format. Two sought-after prizes are at stake in this grueling competition: A direct invite to the finals of their respective school’s qualifiers for IMPETUS 2018, and a match of a lifetime: A scrimmage with multiple Dota 2 Major winners OG. This is the first time in history that OG has agreed to partner up with an intercollegiate tournament and to play in a friendly match with the winning team. The league will be streamed live by the official broadcasting partner of DUEL: Road to Impetus, WomboXCombo.

As a part of the organization’s esports initiative, DUEL aims to elevate the local collegiate esports scene. With the rapid advancement of the whole esports industry, UPGG has identified the potential of collegiate esports to become a sought-after and mainstream venue to showcase the mastery and skill of college students on their chosen game.

“Following the success of last year’s Impetus, the entirety of UPGG sought out ways to elevate the competition. By forging a partnership with RedBull OG, we are now able to present this unique opportunity for fellow college students to match up with some of the greatest players in Dota 2.” – Katrina Banzali, UPGG President

Those eligible to join are teams from the eight UAAP member schools: University of the Philippines (UP), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), De La Salle University (DLSU), University of Santo Tomas (UST), Far Eastern University (FEU), University of the East (UE), Adamson University (AdU), and National University (NU).
