POP!Rocks is a line of Funko POP! that caters to music fans. They’ve got rockers, pop stars, hip hop icons, or basically anyone that has made a mark in the 20th century. It is only proper that Fall Out Boy is included in this long list of stars that have gotten the Funko POP! treatment. Fall Out Boy has been one of the flag bearers of the punk/pop-punk/emo genre of our generation and is still making music to this day.

Not really a huge Funko fan but when it was announced earlier this year that they are releasing Fall Out Boy Funkos, I immediately pre-ordered the set! I’ve been a Fall Out Boy fan since college when I first heard the intro to Grand Theft Autumn and only got deeper into the fandom when Sugar We’re Falling Down came out. Enough with my intro and I’d stop the nostalgia and fascination as this is a toy review and not a music feature. lol.

 PACKAGING

As is with most Funk POP! collectors, the box is everything. There has even been a long standing debate if Funkos should be kept inside the box or outside the box. Personally, I’d prefer my Funkos to be taken out of the box but if there’s one thing going for Funko is that their boxes are highly displayable by themselves. It’s clear what the figures look like inside with the matching box art to compliment it. If these were seen in your home or desk, people would immediately recognize what they are.

The Fall Out Boy Funko POP! set comes in 3 figures: a regular Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz figure and a Hot Topic stickered exclusive Pete Wentz.  I particularly liked the Hot Topic exclusive box as it includes the album cover from Fall Out Boy’s album Take this to your grave.

 SCULPT

Without having any articulation, Funko POPS! collectability would depend on the figures mold or sculpt. Having these figures taken out of the box we can clearly see the level of detail put into these figures. Not only do these figures look like their real life counter parts but they were also able to incorporate their signature bass and guitars into the mold. Funko even captured the right haircuts from Pete’s spikey hair and faux hawk to Patrick Stump’s one side bangs and his fedora hat.

PAINT

What makes Funkos stand out is the paint job. As little as these figures are, you’ll notice the wonderful paint job done as there are no overlapping paint between the fingers and guitar. However, it’s quite disappointing to see Patrick’s guitar with the white paint being smudged on the strings. There’s a possibility that it’s an isolated paint incident as the promotion pictures as well as Pete’s bass do not depict such paint job. Overall, 2/3 isn’t that bad.

It’s also delightful how they incorporated Pete’s eye shadow in the Hot Topic exclusive and his subtle beard on the regular version. If I have to guess, the regular editions of Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz may have been based from the “Save Rock and Roll” era as that was about the time Pete Wentz started growing a beard and faux hawk.  While the Hot Topic edition is a dead giveaway to the early days of the Take This To Your Grave era.  The striped shirt was the one Pete wore on the “Saturday” music video.

 OVERALL

As a longtime fan of Fall Out Boy, I’m satisfied with these Funko POP! Honestly, I never expected this release as I believed that Fall Out Boy are not as big as previously released figures in the POP! Rocks toy line. Funko did a great job with these figures as they clearly captured Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz in their Funko versions. However, there’s only one thing I didn’t like about this release and that is Fall Out Boy wouldn’t be Fall Out Boy without Andy Hurley and Joe Trohman. I think it’s not fair that Funko left those dudes out. Whatever the reasons may be, I just hope that they would include them in a future release. For now, I’d enjoy displaying these figures while listening to my Fall Out Boy playlist.

- The photos were all taken from a Samsung S21 Ultra. It’s my first time using it for a toy review and I may continue to do so in future reviews.
