Sixty Six Chapter 3It might have been a while but Sixty Six Chapter 3 is almost within our grasp.

The standard heroes in comic books are usually in their prime or teenage years but Sixty Six diverges from that road. Enter Mang Tino, a 66 year-old senior citizen who gains super powers on his 66th birthday. Now how would a senior citizen handle this kind of thing, especially since he has to take care of his wife that suffers from memory loss due to her old age?

Having written more than a dozen of Filipino children’s book, Russell Molina is no stranger to illustrated stories. Though his target audience now has moved up in the age bracket, he has no  problems with telling a story for an older audience. The development of the story moves at a decent pace. With our senior hero discovering his powers on the last chapter, we are now shown what he chooses to do with it. Covering the usual development of an upcoming hero, Molina has managed to keep it from being boring by adding the element of Mang Tino’s history. Though there must have been hundreds of super hero stories that have been told, Sixty Six keeps it fresh by having a hero that already owns a senior citizen card. Molina has a way with telling a story and it really shows as each chapter is released.

Ian Sta Maria’s art never fails to amaze. He is able to find the correct balance between white and black to create illustrations that looks clear and very neat. What I do always notice is how his art is able to avoid looking flat. It has that 3D look to it that makes it stand out.  Thanks to Ian Sta Maria, Sixty Six gets the wonderful art that it needs to bring out the action and life that it needs. I have to say that he is still continually improving his craft and it really shows in each of his work.

So far, Sixty Six has been a good read and I’m really interested to see where the story will lead to.

Sixty Six Chapter 3 will be sold on Komikon on November 15.
