As part of DC REBIRTH, Francis Manapul brings us TRINITY #1. The classic title that unites Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman has finally been re-released under Toronto-based Manapul’s creative direction.
Well, let’s get to it.
First of all, I think it’s great to see Manapul get his own title. I mean this is really HIS title considering he’s both the writer and principle artwork. His most recent work includes the first few arcs of The Flash. Aptly put since his work tends to be ‘flashy’ but it works anyway. Manapul is one of the very few artists in the world to actually own the look of his books. His work has a unique visual influence that only he alone has. Plus the story is not too shabby.
Simply put, the issue revolves around Batman and Wonder Woman trying to reach out to the new Superman. This Superman of course is the pre-52 Man of Steel complete with his wife Lois Lane and their half-kryptonian son Jon. The issue itself is about 15 pages so there’s not a lot to say concretely about the plot but if anything it comes up with a decent cliffhanger. I have a really strong feeling this is going to explore Pre-52 Superman’s past and try to bring the whole dilemma full-circle.
The art is great despite all the colour-mixing though that is Manapul’s known style; a technique and manner that makes him one of a kind. You can really see the kind of tone that he wants to set. It’s ambitious and wild and It’s going to be a great run to follow if y’all are up for it!
