The history of the DC Universe is, once again, at the center of attention. DC Dark Nights: Metal challenges our heroes to question the multiverse they live in.

With the launch of Metal, DC Comics enters into the second stage of its Dark Universe saga—The Dark Nights. There are still a lot of questions unanswered in Dark Days and Metal complicates it even further by introducing a universe that has been hiding under our nose. While I’m not complaining about it, I would also appreciate it if DC Comics would answer some questions first before giving us more questions.

As a long time Batman reader, I appreciate how Scott Snyder integrated a lot of Batman stories that, back then, didn’t make a lot of sense. While making his stories easy to pick-up by new readers, Scott Snyder also plants a lot of seeds that requires deep knowledge about the Batman universe. An example of which is the narrative of the Bear Tribe and the Bat Tribe (both of which were shown in the DC Comics released preview) in Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne. There are a lot more, however, I wouldn’t want to spoil the fun for you guys.

Greg Capullo’s thick and grungy line art and FCO Plascencia’s bold and ablaze colors are a perfect marriage for Scott Snyder’s Batman. While DC Comics is introducing the readers to the Dark Universe, the interior artwork provides a shimmer of light during Dark Nights.

Overall, there’s a lot of things to like about Metal. While it provides more questions (yet again) than answers, I am excited for what they are planning for the DC Universe. They are integrating a lot of old stories and characters from different universes to tell the story that has never been told. Metal will definitely have a company-wide ramifications and it will be a loss if you are going to miss out on this issue. You should definitely get it! I encourage you to run to the nearest local comic book store to grab a copy of DC Dark Nights: Metal #1. The story is definitely worth it.
