In the past decade, no other music act has exploded more than Korea’s BTS. Truth be told, I don’t know much about the group. I only know about them through their music in mainstream pop-culture. Recently, Good Smile Company had collaborated with Tiny TAN to produce Nendoroids of the popular group based off their chart topping single Dynamite.
Tiny TAN are animated versions of the group members produced by BIG HIT Entertainment as part of the exclusive merch for BTS Pop-Up: House of BTS.
I purchased this figure as a gift for my cousin who’s an ARMY and whose bias is Jin. With her permission, I asked that I review it first before I hand over her gift.
PACKAGING 9/10
Since this is a recent release, Jin comes in the new and smaller box editions of Nendoroids. As is with other Nendoroid releases, the clear plastic shows what you can expect to get inside. The color scheme draws inspiration from Dynamite music video where the figures are based from. Simple color combinations and catchy images makes this figure highly displayable as is.
SCULP AND PAINT 8/10
One great thing about Good Smile Company is that they can make anything cute and pretty in Nendoroid form. That’s what makes Nendoroids stand out in any collection. Even in their miniscule form, their cuteness makes them standout. Jin’s outfit is based off what he wore in the Dynamite music video group dance sequence. They really paid attention to detail in recreating the band members’ outfit from the mtv.
ARTICULATION 7/10
Jin as good as his figure may look has it’s limitations and that is his articulation. This Nendoroid has limited articulation and in true Nendoroid style, this figure is given replaceable parts to achieve the desired poses. As you can seen in the unboxing video and photos, you can still make this Nendoroid dance. However, this is meant more to be displayed than to be played with.
VERDICT 8/10
With the popularity of BTS there are a lot of merchandise to choose and collect. If you’re an avid fan, you’d definitely want to add a Nendoroid in your collection. What separates it from other BTS collectibles such as Funko is that Nendoroids are highly displayable. You have the freedom to choose how to display your figure. If this would be your first time purchasing a Nendoroid, I would just like to advise you to be careful of the replaceable parts, they’re so little that they’re easily misplace or discarded. When not in use, always return the unused parts inside the box.
Honestly, I’m glad that Good Smile Company is venturing on releasing Nendoroids based of real people. I do hope that they continue making this line as their are other personalities that I would sure love to see in Nendoroid form.
