Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker is the brainchild of Tom Delonge (Blink 182, Angels & Airwaves). This book is actually a prequel to a short film of the same title which was also directed by Delonge himself and features music by his band Angels & Airwaves.
Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker is about brothers, Jonas and Alan Anderson discovering an alternate universe to our own, the Dream World which you can only visit (yes, you guessed it right!) when you’re dreaming. In the Dreamworld, there are 2 opposing factions, Lucid Dreamers the ones who are about power and adventure and the Night Terrors haunts the trouble and the helpless whose goal is to take over the Dream World and the Real World. Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker being a collected edition feels a bit short, story-wise. With this being a prequel, it’s understandable as it’s also a teaser to the main arc.
It’s a story as old as time, the never ending battle about good versus evil. The good thing about it is that the team of Tom Delonge and Ben Kull had created a universe of their own that is open to a lot of possibilities. They can do so much with the material and in this own (Dream) world, the possibilities are endless. Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker lets you indulge in a world of action and adventure which is the reason why most of us read comics/books, to ESCAPE.
Art is handled by the Djet Stephane which compliments Delonge’s story. His art style suits perfectly which gives you the feeling of reading the storyboard itself. What stands out the most to the art are the colors, it’s so vivid that it makes the pages pop. The art gives a distinction to each location in the Dream World and the night shots and the effects reminds you of Tron. The book may have been said as a Tom Delonge title but Djet and Ben Kull deserves equal credit for their work.
With Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker, Delonge has added a new title to his credit, a comic book writer. The collected edition only gives a glimpse to the brave new world of the Dream World and I’m looking forward to where it brings me next.
