GEEKLY EXPERIENCE: KomikStrip 2011

Last Saturday was KomikStrip at the University of the Philippines, Los Banos (outside Manila). The convention was their second year and it was my first time to attend this event. I went there as an exhibitor. I’m an indie Komiks artist and I sold some of my komiks there.

The event started at around mid-day But, there was a slight hiccup at the start. There wasn’t any electricity. However, the power was back on after lunch and everything was fine. A lot of good and great people of the Filipino Komiks community were there, like Gerry Alanguilan, Orvy Jundis, Danny Acuna, Manix Abrera and many more. Like me, there were some people in the indie scene, like Macoy, Tepai Pascual of Meganon Comics, Freely Abrigo, Polyhedron Comics, Rampage Comics, Silent Sanctum Manga, Rommel Estanislao and etc. There were also supporters there, like Comic Odyssey, Komikon and many more.

The people who attended bought and read komiks, joined the activities, walked through exhibits and features and enjoyed the company of many komiks-related individuals within the campus. Most of the people who attended were students of the said university. They wore word balloon caps and had their their Komikstrip shirts get signed & sketched by artists in the event. Everybody was entertained, especially when they saw Michael David’s Kubori Kikiam motion comic on the big wall.

It was the right time to take some photos. Unfortunately, my camera broke during the event. I was able to get some shots. But, thanks to Jonas Diego, one of the organizers of the event, helped me through this task. Thanks.

At the end of the day, people were happy. See you again next year.
