Rob Cham’s LIGHT will be published by BUÑO and MAGNETIC PRESS!

Magnetic Press & star comic writer/artist Ulises Fariñas announced Buño, a unique new comic book publishing imprint at Magnetic Press. The imprint is independently operated and curated by Ulises Farinas & Storme Smith. The first 3 titles to be published by Buño will be: LIGHT (written & illustrated by Rob Cham), CLOUDIA & REX (written by Ulises Fariñas & Erick Freitas, illustrated by Daniel Irizarri), and THE GUARDIAN FORCE DESIGN MANUAL (written & illustrated by Ulises Fariñas, inked by Mike Prezzato).

With our very own Rob Cham and his square-sized graphic novel leveling up into the foreign comic market, we got a chance to ask him a couple of questions about this news. Rob said, “[I] met Ulises on Twitter, added him on Facebook, around the time LIGHT was published here in the Philippines,. [I] was pushing it hard promotions wise on Facebook and Ulises asked about it. Sent him a copy and we’ve been figuring out how to work with each other ever since. He told me he was putting together Buño and wanted me on board, asked if LIGHT could be published by them in the US.”

With Buño publishing LIGHT in the US, would there be any problem for Anino Comics? Rob replied, “I cleared it up with Adarna House/Anino Comics, I retained the rights for LIGHT so it wasn’t that big of a problem. I sorted it out with Ulises that Adarna owns the publishing rights for now in the Philippines. The deal will hardly affect the other so it’s been settled.

Will there be any changes or revisions? Rob answers, “No final word on the finished product, but so far the agreed specs on it were it’d be 7×7 inches Hardcover, full color, and on really nice paper. There aren’t any revisions besides having to trim some of the pin ups I had in the first book. I am not sure if

The first title to be released by Buño is LIGHT, a silent, original graphic novel written & illustrated by Rob Cham. Light is a silent graphic novel that follows a pair of adventurers from a black & white world as they embark on an epic quest to collect five magic gems of color from deep inside the earth and bring them to the surface to return color to the world. Their perilous journey through torch-lit darknesses takes them to vibrant secret caverns, endless passages, crystal-clear waters, and encounters with strange beasts, dangerous creatures, and mysterious hermits.

Will Buño publish another Rob Cham book in the future? “I’ll have any future work with Buño, it depends on how well this first year goes I’ve shown Ulises Lost though if LIGHT does well,” Rob said, “we may see it published but for now I’m just excited at the opportunity.”
