New Trailer and Character Posters Released for FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST

Who could forget Fullmetal Alchemist? Dubbed as one of the “best Anime of all time”, Fullmetal Alchemist has received the live-action treatment, and is set to premiere on the 1st of December.

The film stars Ryōsuke Yamada (Hey! Say! JUMP member and live-action Assassination Classroom‘s Nagisa) as Edward Elric, Tsubasa Honda (live-action Blue Spring Ride‘s Futaba) as Winry Rockbell, and Dean Fujioka (live-action Happy Marriage!?) as Roy Mustang. Other cast members include:

  • Fumiyo Kohinataas General Hakuro
  • Ryuta Satoas Maes Hughes
  • Misako Renbutsuas Riza Hawkeye
  • Natsunaas Maria Ross
  • Natsuki Harada as Gracia Hughes
  • Yo Oizumias Shou Tucker
  • Jun Kunimuraas Doctor Marco
  • Yasuko Matsuyukias Lust
  • Kanata Hongouas Envy
  • Shinji Uchiyamaas Gluttony
  • Kenjiro Ishimaruas Father Cornello

The live action film will feature the full story of FMA, but Edward is aged 20 here (in the manga series, Edward is aged 15). As for Alphonse, he will be rendered in 3D.

For the manga readers, Mangaka creator Hiromu Arakawa is drawing a “special-edition comic” that people who attend theatrical screenings in Japan will receive. So watch out for that!

In addition, three character posters were released for the film:

A brief synopsis of the Fullmetal Alchemist series:

“In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse became nothing but a soul in a suit of armor. Equipped with mechanical “auto-mail” limbs, Edward becomes a state alchemist, seeking the one thing that can restore his and his brother’s bodies…the legendary Philosopher’s Stone.”

The series inspired the 2003 tv series Fullmetal Alchemist and its sequel film, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie – Conqueror of Shamballa, in 2005. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, is the reboot of the 2003 tv series. Since Arakawa has already finished the manga, the 2009 series is closely related to the manga series. A spinoff film, Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos debuted in 2011.

We can’t wait to see the live action film! The trailers are so promising. This will surely bring back some beloved memories for longtime fans.
