GADGET REVIEW: Acer Liquid Zest Plus

cymera_20161002_191015

It’s the BER season again and what better way to start the last quarter of the year with our latest review. In case you’re in the market for a new phone as gift or for yourself, let us help you decide with our hands on review of one of Acer’s latest smart phone, the Acer Liquid Zest Plus.

UNBOXING – A surprise inside the box!

The box is as big as the smart phone and comes with what you would expect of a smart phone, the manuals, headset, charger and to my surprise, the Acer Liquid Zest Plus has its own VR cardboard box! That was very unexpected as I didn’t know any smart phone that includes a VR viewer in its package (I’d discuss this more in detail later in my review). The Acer Liquid Zest Plus has a 5.5” screen, which seems to be the standard among smart phones today. The resolution is set at 720 x 1280 pixels, it may not be at a full 1080 but you would barely notice it as the pictures are still crisp and clear.

The Acer Liquid Zest Plus is packed with the Android OS v6.0, the Marshmallow. It runs Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortez A53 with a 2 GB RAM and a 16 GB internal memory with an external microSD slot. So far, the Acer Zest Liquid Zest meets the standard of current smart phones out in the market today.

BATTERY – A smart phone that packs a LOT of juice!

What makes this smart phone standout from the competition is its battery. This smart phone packs a lot of juice! The Acer Liquid Zest Plus carries a whopping 5000 mAh battery! That’s about twice the battery life of some high end smart phones whose battery is at about 3600 mAh.

In today’s world, we do a lot with our smart phone, we go online, play games, take pictures, record videos and just when we’re about to use the phone for its intended purpose to call and text, you’ll realize that you’re out of battery. I’m pretty sure you know what it feels but with the Acer Liquid Zest Plus that’s the least of your worry. It may even give a battery company a run for its money as this smart phone just keeps on going and going.

With the smart phone that I’m using today, a full usage that rotates between mobile internet, music and video, games, one full charge gives me about 3-4 hrs of battery life. With the Acer Zest Liquid Zest Plus internal battery, the same usage with a couple of hours stand-by, it lasted for more than 24 hours. I read somewhere that Acer’s smart phone could last up to 3 days without charging. I don’t know the parameters they used but having 24 hours for a battery life is good enough for me.

Finally, Acer provided a solution to our battery woes.

CAMERA – Snap the pictures away!

Camera is one thing that we look for in a smart phone. We always want to capture that moment or just simply take a selfie. The Acer Zest Liquid Zest Plus offers a 13MP primary camera and a 5MP secondary camera. It also has multiple camera modes to choose from to suit your needs. Fortunately, I was also covering an event this past weekend and I have put the Acer Zest Liquid Zest Plus’ camera to the test. I’m satisfied at how the photos turned out. If you’re into a mobile photography or just simple point and shoot, Acer Liquid Zest Plus’ camera got you covered.

VR Viewer – The mobile Virtual Reality experience.

As what I’ve mentioned earlier, the Acer Liquid Zest Plus has a VR viewer. It’s a first so I’m pretty psyched when I saw the cardboard viewer but was disappointed to find out that it doesn’t have built in apps for VR. You may use the VR viewer but you would still need to download the app through the Google Playstore.

Acer Liquid Zest Plus’ VR viewer works fine in watching videos, it really gives you the full 360 degree experience! However, I had difficulty using it for games/app, there are times that I had to remove the box to select the option. It’s either I’m doing something wrong or there’s an actual issue with the app itself. It would have also helped if it came along with a strap instead of holding it with both of your hands. The VR feature of Acer Liquid Zest Plus is an added bonus, it’s good to try it the first few times but it gets old pretty quickly. Not that it’s an issue with the phone, VR is still new technology and there aren’t a lot of apps available in the market that would get you hooked.

VERDICT – The Acer Liquid Zest Plus has everything that you need at an affordable price!

Overall, the Acer Liquid Zest Plus lives up to the standards of high-end smart phones in the market today. It has everything that other companies offer but what separates the Acer Liquid Zest Plus from the competition is its battery. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what your smart phone can or cannot do, what matters is that you’re able to use it. At a retail price of PhP 7,999.00, you’ll have everything you need in smart phone with a long-lasting battery and more! The Acer Liquid Zest Plus costs like a mid-level smart phone but has the features of a high-end smart phone. It’s definitely your money’s worth!

Thanks to our good friends from Acer for letting us try out their latest smart phone! The Acer Liquid Zest Plus is now available in stores!
