It Is Official: Liza Soberano Flies As DARNA
It is now moot and academic, as Liza Soberano is set to wear the crimson and gold shades of local superheroine Darna.
Confirmed last Tuesday in an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN correspondent MJ Felipe, the 19-year old actress has affirmed that she had accepted the coveted role. “Yes, it is confirmed. Tinanggap ko na po sya,” Soberano mused.
Fellow ABS-CBN talent Angel Locsin first took on the character back when she was in GMA in 2005. Locsin was Erik Matti’s first choice for the upcoming movie, which was announced in 2015, but a back injury prevented the actress from accepting the roles. She did voice her support for Soberano, however in a recent interview. She also posted a quick snippet of Darna following the announcement.
“I’m very excited for her and sinusuportahan ko siya 100%. Sana ay suporahan din natin kung gaano niyo ako sinuportahan ay ibigay natin sa kanya kasi naniniwala talaga ako sa kanya.”
The superheroine was last portrayed by GMA star Marian Rivera for the small screen in 2009.
In recent reiterations of Darna, a small town girl named Narda chances upon a tiny rock from outer space, which gives her superpowers upon swallowing and shouting “Darna.”
Darna first appeared in the komiks created by acclaimed Filipino comic artist Mars Ravelo. The strip was first published in Pilipino Komiks in 1950.
