Variety reports that Scarlett Johansson has signed the dotted line for the lead role in DreamWorks’ live-action adaptation of Ghost In The Shell.

This new report follows a headline dated October 2014, in which the Avengers: Age of Ultron female lead was allegedly offered $10 million to star in the film. It was also previously announced that DreamWorks have tapped Rupert Sanders in the directorial helm.

Debuting in 1989, Ghost in the Shell centers on Public Security Section 9, a counter-cyberterrorist organization in near-future Japan led by Major Motoko Kusanagi. The manga inspired several animated films, video games and two animated television series.

According to DreamWorks founder Steven Spielberg, he is hoping that Johansson’s involvement in the project will set the movie’s gears into motion. Being a big fan of Masamune Shirow’s magnum opus, he is positive that she has the capacity to carry the burden of the role.

Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing Ghost in the Shell from a script by Bill Wheeler (The Cape). Mark Sourian is executive producing.
