COMIC BOOK REVIEW: The Outsiders War Continues With Green Arrow #28!

Writer: Jeff Lemire

Artist: Andrea Sorrentino

Off the heels of the action packed 27th issue, the story shifts to plot progression as our favorite Emerald Archer deals with the reprecussions of his father’s return, while others make their move as the Outsiders War continues with Green Arrow #28!

While this might not be the best issue in Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino’s run, they sure have covered quite a lot with this chapter smoothly, producing a knockout in the process and giving another push to the storyline.

Like I said, A LOT has been covered with #28: 1. Ollie dealing with the revelation of his father’s survival, 2. Komodo coercing the rogue Outsiders clans to align with him, and; 3. John Diggle meeting up with Team Arrow(yeah, that’s what I like to call Naomi and Fyff, same with Diggle and Felicity on the TV show) and asking their help with regard to Richard Dragon(who happens to be awesome compared with his pre-New 52 incarnation).

Despite squeezing multiple plotlines with this issue, everything has been covered nicely by Lemire. No plot holes were left along the trail, and a couple of questions were answered about Robert Queen. The attention might have been attuned to the older Arrow, but not at the expense of the rest losing their share of the spotlight.

One thing we can truly praise about this particular run is Andrea Sorrentino, who keeps on giving us amazing sequence pieces every issue. The way he handled the flashback scenes is just so great, and there are two particular spreads which deserves accolade amongst critics: a spread involving Ollie and his dad, and another that makes brilliant use of onomatopoeia. When did you saw panels inserted inside onomatopoeia before? You haven’t? Then go out and pick this book.

Green Arrow and Kodiak. This is just so awesome. Just when did you saw panels inside sound effects?

I’ve said this before, and I’ll never get tired of telling this: Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino’s creative combi is definitely one of the best teams ever to embrace the comic book medium. Surely, we’ll be seeing more from this duo as the Outsiders War nears its conclusion. Prepare to be Arrow-fied.

10/10
