FANBOY’s : Best of the Week (Nov. 19)

This week, it seems like DC Comics has had the upper hand over their rival Marvel Comics. With a good run of Batman related books coming out this week including Grant Morrison’s anticipated Batman Incorporated # 1 coming out, DC is definitely the clear cut winner this week IMO.

Here are the mini reviews for the various comic books available locally at LCS around Metro Manila.

DC Comics:

Batman Incorporated # 1

Grant Morrison and Yannick Paquette’s epic work on the Batman franchise should be welcomed with applause and smiles because this book just set the tone for the future of the Batman books for the next 10 to 15 years.

You have to admit though that the 21st Century Batman, particularly the feel of the book has gone from superhero to vigilante to full-on Tony Stark-ism. Bruce Wayne has announced to the world that he has been funding Batman since day one and that he will be making it into a global endeavor. Sounds like a plan. Only thing wrong with it was that Grant Morrison has done a similar concept a few years back during his work on the New X-Men where he began establishing the whole X-Corporation run by Charles Xavier. Although the idea wasnt really picked up by readers, it is a safe assumption that the idea was an inception for Batman Incorporated.

The overall tone is a bit violent as people die and the Japanese crimefighter, Mr. Unknown has gotten his hands and face burned by acid.

The romance between Batman and Catwoman is also a great welcome back for readers.

Giant rats and the whole mini-world of Tokyo is also a great welcome relief from the usual Gotham city setting for the book. Just goes to show that Batman really will operate on a global scale.
