Marvel’s Avengers Will Feature Spider-Man as a PlayStation Exclusive FREE DLC
Seems our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man will be exclusive to only one particular neighborhood. Developer Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that Spider-Man will join Marvel’s Avengers’ roster as a free post-launch DLC character. They also confirmed that the spider-tingly hero will be available exclusively on PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. If you don’t/won’t game on either, then, unfortunately, you won’t be able to get them, tiger.
Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man comes to Marvel’s Avengers, exclusively on PlayStation. Crystal Dynamics offers early details on its own, unique take on the post-launch Hero: https://t.co/GA3t6Y40KI pic.twitter.com/TEho59XfIc

This news caused quite a bit of outrage from fans whilst some suspect that Xbox will have their own exclusive character, similar to how guest characters were done in Soulcalibur games. This theory is quickly shutdown however after Crystal Dynamics clarified with IGN that Spider-Man will be the only console-exclusive character in the game. This was made possible due to Sony’s unique position after having published Insomniac’s Spider-Man title.
So not only does PlayStation have an exclusive character, but no other platform will have the same advantage. For some (including me), this has greatly influenced the deciding factor on which platform to purchase the game from, especially considering that the game will feature a free next-gen upgrade as well.
